TAMPA FL – Eager to avoid repeat occurrences of the Anthony Weiner scandal, recruiters and HR professionals are becoming more vigilant about pre employment screening than ever. Kevin Connell, CEO of AccuScreen, will be presenting at the HR Tampa Dinner Meeting on June 15th at 5:30pm, which will be held at the Centre Club in Tampa, Florida. In addition to discussing standard techniques, such as an employment criminal background check, Connell will also shed light on legal and ethical methods to utilize social media screening, should employers wish to vet selections in that manner.</p>
<p>In his years of seeing the hiring process change with technology, Connell has gathered best practices, tips and tricks to gather pertinent information about potential new employees. His presentation, “The Seven Commandments of Using Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter as part of the Screening and Hiring Process,” will show attendees how they verify authenticity of collected information, and the pitfalls of not doing a thorough pre-employment screening. The full screening process should be disclosed to every applicant, including what resources the company plans to check. Also included in this presentation will be previously unheard-of ways to prevent anyone from hacking into a Facebook account.</p>

<p>Connell is a nationally recognized speaker known for his expertise on human resource topics including negligent hiring, employee theft, and resume fraud. He routinely speaks at human resources conferences and has also offered expert testimony before the Florida Supreme Court.</p>
<p>&#8220;Effective employment screening is often one of the best tools any company can put to use, as it results in higher quality, more productive and more loyal employees. One example is the recent case in Albuquerque where a police officer was reprimanded after listing his employment as &#8216;human waste disposal.&#8217; This embarrassed the department and spurred changes to the department&#8217;s social media policy. To further protect their companies, employers need to drastically alter the way human resource professionals performs each and every employment criminal background check, but also spell out a clear social media policy for after the hiring process is complete. I hope to help employers gain a better understanding of legal issues that result from using online information to make hiring decisions,&#8221; concluded Connell.</p>

<p>TAMPA, FL &#8212; The rapid rise of online social media has drastically and permanently altered the world of employment screening, and not always to the benefit of employers.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s the message that AccuScreen.com, an industry pioneer in employment pre-screening services, will emphasize in an upcoming webinar on the topic of online employment screening. The webinar, scheduled for 2 to 3 p.m. EST on Nov. 17, will examine potential legal issues and other concerns related to using sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube as part of the employment screening process.</p>
<p>&#8220;More and more companies are routinely combing the Internet for information on job applicants, assuming that everything they find is fair game for consideration in the hiring process. What they often don&#8217;t realize is that the information they&#8217;re gathering may be not only completely inaccurate but also legally risky in terms of online employment screening. Our webinar is intended to help employers understand that even accurate information found online cannot always be legally used as a consideration in employment decisions,&#8221; said Kevin Connell, CEO and founder of AccuScreen.com (http://www.accuscreen.com/).</p>
<p>The webinar will examine several specific cases in which information posted online reflected poorly on the applicant, the applicant&#8217;s employer or both. Connell, who will present the webinar, noted that laws regarding privacy, off-work conduct and discrimination vary from state to state and are subject to change as legislatures and the legal field as a whole scramble to keep up with the challenges posed by social media technology.</p>
<p>&#8220;As a major provider of background check services for pre-employment screening as well as other types of screening, we at AccuScreen.com must stay on top of these issues and legal trends, keeping in mind that the situation can change without notice depending on the terms-of-use policies of sites such as Facebook and Twitter,&#8221; Connell said. &#8220;We also want employers to realize that even if they&#8217;re outsourcing their screening to a company that specializes in background check services, not all such companies are created equal. Anyone can offer online employment screening, but not everyone understands the nuances of how to go about it in a legally sound and responsible way.&#8221;</p>
<p>In addition to looking at specific examples of online content concerns, the webinar will address the issues of identity and authenticity related to online information. In some cases, Connell noted, a company may be faced with the challenge of &#8220;unlearning&#8221; what it finds out about an applicant if that information falls under legal protections of anti-discrimination laws.</p>

<p>In this free interactive webinar, Connell will share real stories of outrageous resume lies and reveal insider secrets of employment scam artists. Actual names of websites that help con men and scam artists achieve their goal of robbing employers of millions of dollars and trade secrets will be revealed. </p>
<p>&#8220;This webinar is a &#8216;must&#8217; for anyone involved in the hiring, recruiting or staffing of new employees. Have no dissolutions &#8212; there are con artists and scammers working the hiring system to rob businesses blind. Knowing what to look for is essential to avoid employment scams and to protect the precious assets of the business,&#8221; said Connell.</p>
<p>According to Connell, professional con artists aren&#8217;t the only ones lying on resumes and job applications to try to weasel their way into companies. </p>
<p>&#8220;When the economy recedes, job applicants tend to lie more. 43% of the job applicants that we do a background check on come back with a discrepancy,&#8221; said Connell.</p>
<p>These resume lies, often centered on inflating credentials or hiding criminal history, can chip away at the integrity of a company. The webinar will show employers exactly how to spot these resume lies that can allow unqualified and potentially dangerous people access to the organization. </p>
<p>The webinar will take place on Thursday, September 9th 2010 at 11am Eastern Standard Time. </p>
